PERINATAL/POSTNATAL DEPRESSION COUNSELLING

Having a baby can be an exciting time, full of intense emotions. It is also a time of great change that many women or their partners may not be completely prepared for. If you are expecting or have recently given birth and find yourself constantly feeling depressed or anxious, you may be experiencing perinatal/postnatal depression (PND). This is not an uncommon condition and often loving support from family and friends may be enough to recover. For many new mothers however, support may not be available. These feelings persist to a debilitating degree and impacting their day-to-day functions.

Avoid long term repercussions of PND by seeking help early! Schedule an appointment if any of these symptoms persist for an extended period of time either during pregnancy or after child-birth:

  • Depression and feeling of hopelessness
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Feelings of hostility, including thoughts of harming the baby
  • Anxiety
  • Difficulty focusing or making decisions
  • Fatigue
  • Obsessive-compulsive behaviours
  • Difficulty caring for self or baby
  • suicidal thoughts
